A Guide to Living in Baytown

Baytown, located within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area, is the fourth-largest city in the metro area and spans over parts of both Harris and Chambers County in the Gulf Coast region of Texas at the mouth of the San Jacinto River.

Major Attractions

The Baytown Little Theater, a community theater run solely through the efforts of area volunteers, has been in operation for fifty years and is one of the longest continuously running community theater programs in the state. In addition to the six productions mounted by Baytown Little Theater, visitors and residents of Baytown can also enjoy the 450-acre Baytown Nature Center, the Houston Raceway Park and the Baytown Symphony Orchestra at Lee College.

Companies

Baytown’s economy is centered largely around the three industrial districts outside of the city limits but within Baytown’s extra-territorial jurisdiction, which are dedicated primarily to petroleum and petrochemical processing.

The ExxonMobil Baytown Complex, which is one of the largest industrial complexes in the world, was founded in 1919 and is one of the largest employers in the area. The Baytown Refinery inside the Baytown complex is actually the largest in the United States, and houses a host of workers from Baytown and surrounding areas.

The Bayer Baytown Industrial Park, home of Bayer’s largest American chemical processing site, also produces a large number of petrochemical products.

The Cedar Bayou Chemical Plant, owned by Chevron Phillips, is also the largest manufacturing site in the company’s roster of plants. With more than $7 billion in assets and 4,600 employees around the world, the Texas-based Chevron Phillips is a major employer on a global scale.

Childcare Options

From sprawling daycare centers of either faith-based or non-sectarian affiliation to early education and small home-based daycare centers, there are a staggering array of childcare options available to Baytown area parents. We understand that sifting through dozens of applicants, reading stacks of resumes and undertaking the task of running a background check on a private, in-home childcare provider can be overwhelming to busy parents, which is why we’re happy to offer our services to families in Baytown. All of our nannies are screened carefully for criminal convictions, moving violations and driving related offenses, as well as checked against the National Sex Offender Registry. Our vetting and matching process ensures that you’ll always have the most qualified, safest candidate at your disposal, with no need to conduct a series of interviews or manage the sticky task of background checks on your own.
