Katy is located within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area, spanning parts of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Katy was 14,102 with a total land area of 10.7 square miles. The Gadberry Group named Katy among the “9 from 2009” most notable high-growth areas in the nation.

Major Attractions

Katy features a variety of exciting attractions and activities. Mary Jo Peckham Park, which features a wetland habitat, community center, walking trail, fishing pier, rest rooms, gazebo, playground, indoor pool and exercise facilities, picnic and barbecue accommodations, koi point, lake, pavilion and miniature golf course, is among the best municipal parks in Katy.

Golf enthusiasts love Meadowbrook Farms, a private golf club that features a world-class course, clubhouse and dining options. Retail lovers are free to shop until they collectively drop at Katy Mills, a high-end shopping destination that houses more than 175 separate stores.

The Katy Heritage Museum is a favorite of local history buffs, featuring a selection of vintage farm equipment, artifacts of local relevance and a selection of antiques. Pioneering and farming are celebrated at Katy Heritage Museum, which is also home to a collection of antique photographs.

Companies

There are a number of major companies with corporate headquarters in Katy, along with several projects in progress to complete new business facilities.

The Energy Corridor section of Katy is home to BP America, with engineering and business support for a significant portion of BP’s onshore operations in the United States and Gulf of Mexico handled there.

Igloo Corporation, a widely recognized name in ice chests for both personal and industrial use is also headquartered just west of Katy in unincorporated Waller County.

Academy Sports + Outdoors, a prominent figure in the sporting goods world is also headquartered in Katy, providing a number of jobs to local residents in and around the Katy area.

Churches and Places of Worship

CrossPoint Community Church is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, a conservative biblical doctrine from the Reformation Era. There are a variety of ministry and outreach programs offered by and available to the members of Crosspoint Community Church, which is located at 700 Westgreen Boulevard in Katy.

Kingsland Baptist Church encourages newcomers to dress comfortably, as the atmosphere is a casual one focused on worship and biblical teaching. Kingsland makes a number of activities and programs available to the community, including children’s and youth ministries.

Current Christian Church, located at 26600 Westheimer Parkway in Katy is a “come-as-you-are” casual church that welcomes visitors and members alike in jeans, as well as suits and ties. Regardless of what you’re wearing, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

Schools

Children living in Katy are zoned into the Katy Independent School District, which includes Zelma Hutsell Elementary School, Katy Elementary School and Woodcreek Elementary School. Katy Junior High and Woodcreek Junior High serve middle school pupils in the area, along with Cinco Ranch High School and Katy High School.

Faith West Academy is a coed, private school of non-denominational Christian affiliation with 565 students from preschool through twelfth grade. The student to teacher ratio is 11.3:1, 18.9% higher than the national average for private schools.

Crosspoint Christian School is a Lutheran-affiliated private, coed school with a total enrollment of 23 students from preschool through transitional kindergarten. The student to teacher ratio is 12.1:1, 27.4% higher than the national average.

Pope Jone XXIII High School in Katy is a coed private high school of Roman Catholic affiliation that serves a total of 269 students from ninth grade through senior year. The student to teacher ratio at Pope John XXIII is 7.2:1, lower than the national average for private schools by 24.2%.

Standardized Test Scores

Student living in Katy and attending public schools zoned to Katy Independent School District between third and eleventh grades consistently scored above the state average standard on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills in 2011, in some cases significantly so.
