Originally, I tried to find a nanny on my own and it took me much, much longer and only half of them spoke English. I had to do my own background checks. Morningside Nannies made it much easier, faster and more efficient.

A Guide to Living in Galena Park

Galena Park is located in the Harris County section of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. At the time of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Galena Park was determined to be 10,887 with a total land area of five square miles. Once a farming and ranching community known as Clinton, the area was dramatically affected in the 1880s when it became a railroad center along the Port of Houston. The petrochemical industry boom of the early 1900s again changed the area, which was later named after the Galena Signal Oil Company of Texas.

Major Attractions

Because the Galena Park community is more of a bedroom community for Houston commuters, the majority of available attractions and activities are located in the surrounding area.

Museum lovers are a short nine-mile trip from the wonders of Houston’s Museum District, with a staggering selection of nineteen meticulously-maintained museums in the immediate area. Entertainment and culture buffs flock to Houston’s Theater District in Droves, which is home to nine performing arts organizations of recognition and several smaller community groups.

The Space Center Houston, located in nearby Webster, celebrates the Houston area’s contributions to the American space program and exploration, and is a favorite of locals and visitors alike.

Companies

Many residents of Galena Park opt to commute into Houston or the surrounding area for work, as the area is largely suburban. There is, however, some light industry in the area.

Kinder Morgan, the largest midstream and third largest energy company in North America, with an interest in roughly 75,000 miles of pipeline and 180 terminals. Kinder Morgan is one of the major employers in Galena Park, with a significant portion of local residents working for the company in some fashion.

The City of Galena and Galena Park Independent School district are also primary area employers, with a heavy portion of local residents that live in the area working for these two government agencies. The per capita income for Galena Park is $12,207, with 25.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

Childcare Options

While there are a large number of daycare centers in Galena Park, both faith-based and non-sectarian, we understand that many parents prefer the flexibility and one-on-one attention that only a private, in-home childcare provider can offer. That’s why we’re pleased to offer our services to families in the Pearland area, supplying experienced and exceptional nannies that have been carefully screened and matched specifically to the unique needs of your individual family.
