Reapplying with Morningside Nannies

Thank you for considering Morningside Nannies for your nanny job search.

For one reason or another, on occasion we are unable to proceed with the application process of a nanny candidate.

While this may occur for many reasons, there are five main reasons nanny candidate are not able to proceed with the application process.

Minimum Requirements

To be represented by Morningside Nannies, all caregivers must:

·  Have verifiable, professional childcare references

·  Be able to legally accept employment in the United States

·  Be able to read, write and speak English fluently

·  Have a valid U.S. driver’s license with a good driving record and current auto insurance

·  Submit to a background check

·  Have access to a vehicle to be used for the transportation of children

·  Be a non-smoker

·  Be at least 19 years old

·  Have a high school diploma, GED or formal education in child related studies

·  Have current CPR/First Aid certification or be willing to obtain it prior to

starting a position. We do offer it to qualified applicants at no cost.

These are our minimum criteria that all nannies must meet to be considered for representation.

Child Care & Safety Assessment

For the safety of children, all caregivers must have a basic understanding of best practices in child care. Demonstrating that you have basic child care knowledge ensures our team and the parents we work with that you are familiar with basic child care best practices, like the importance of putting a baby to sleep on her back, basic nanny responsibilities, like the importance of communicating concerns with the parents, and basic safety knowledge, like when to call emergency services.

If you did not score well on our assessment, we encourage you to increase your child care and nanny knowledge and understanding of child safety.

Obtaining your CPR and First Aid, enrolling in a training program like the one offered through our partners at NannyTraining.com and reading child care books and attending child care workshops and classes can increase your knowledge base and help you to be the best caregiver you can be.

Documentation

At Morningside Nannies we require verification of identity, background, knowledge base, experience, and education to proceed with your application.

We ask nannies to bring the following documentation with them to their appointment so that they can complete the necessary paperwork to process your application.

· Driver’s License

· CPR/First Aid Certification, if current

· Social Security Card or other eligible document(s) to complete Form I-9

· Proof of Auto Insurance with your name on the policy

· Professional childcare work references

· Any certificates, letters of reference or proof of training

· Your work history timeline and/or resume

For each job include dates of employment, job duties, why the position ended and contact information for verification.

If you didn’t have your documentation together at the time of your appointment, we encourage you to gather it prior to rescheduling. Doing so will ensure you can complete the application forms and move forward in our process.

Experience

At Morningside Nannies, we require applicants to have at least two years of recent childcare work experience.

While the experience gained from providing care for family and friends or on a volunteer basis contributes to your experience as a child care provider, we require our applicants to have experience working in formal child care position.

Formal child care positions including working a daycare provider, teacher, nanny, babysitter, camp counselor, tutor, coach, church nursery worker or other position where you held a job working with children.

We consider recent child care experience to have occurred within the last 2-5 years, though this is determined at the discretion of the nanny coordinator. We also must be able to verify your work experience through reference checking or employment verification.

If you fell short of having two years of verifiable childcare work experience, we encourage you to reapply once you have met this minimum criterion.

English Fluency

At Morningside Nannies, we represent many bilingual candidates. We have referred nannies who speak anything from Spanish, French and Mandarin to lesser known Island languages. These candidates all have something in common, however. They also speak fluent English.

We gauge English fluency by ensuring an applicant can go through our process without translation assistance with the standard being that we believe each candidate could effectively communicate with emergency personnel in English, can follow written or spoken instructions in English and can read to the children in their care in English.

We encourage non-fluent English speakers to improve their English fluency. There are often free English as a Second Language classes available that can help non-native speakers improve.
